What would a spirit look like if I painted it? I started this wood block wall art piece after learning that my grandmother had passed away. I needed the time to process and wanted to work through the art. I set little intention except to honor her spirit and remember her life. I had no vision of what this would be, but let the grief guide me and just feel. This little art therapy session turned into a beautiful, swirling pattern of color, and reminds me of the patterned blouses my grandmother used to wear. She was also a painter, so I know her spirit is alive within me. The final piece inspired a second, larger abstract painting on wood, and I have visions of many more for this collection. I want this piece to be a joyful celebration of the spirits that have gone before us.
