Description

“I prefer winter and fall, when you can feel the bone structure in the landscape – the loneliness of it – the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it – the whole story doesn’t show.” — Andrew Wyeth

This mixed media abstract art began inspired by a walk around a lake on an overcast, foggy day just after a fresh snowfall. It was cold, but the snow was soft beneath my boots, and I observed the beautiful patterns of ice and snow outlining the dead brush and branches along the bank. I was never a fan of winter but fell back in love with it that day in my solitude by the lake. There was a peace, even in the dead of it, and a hope that waits for Springtime. This painting went through many layers and versions, with acrylic paint, texturizing mediums, oil pastels and acrylic paint pens. And there is a secret message – an idea or thought pattern that I hope to move past – carved in a layer of paint that was then thoroughly painted over. I hope that the covering up of that idea can help me bury it away from my consciousness.

This is a really lovely piece, with lots of depth, texture, and mystery. The original mixed media painting on canvas has sold, but it prints beautifully.
